January 8th 2012 -
A dog is certainly not limited to minor commands like rolling over. We have been training dogs to perform special tasks for many, many years and have barely touched the surface of their abilities. Below, we will be looking at some of the ways dogs are useful to our everyday needs and some of the ways they can extraordinarily impact our lives.
There are folks that depend on assistance dogs to help them in their everyday lives. The best known assistance dogs are seeing eye dogs for the blind. This has been the major role they have played up until now and are currently trained for a variety of other important tasks. Lately, support dogs are being trained to assist many other types of disabled people, like the hearing impaired, those who are unable to get out of their beds and many others. This type of dog must be chosen with care and there are certain kinds of dogs that work out better that other ones. The two main breeds that best meet these qualifications are German Shepherds and Golden Retrievers. Those dogs that are trained to assist the blind or the hearing impaired obviously must be incredibly responsible and compliant. Most of the time, the impaired person who is using the service of a support dog is completely dependent on them. An assistance dog must also be carefully matched with a person to ensure that they are compatible.
Herders and farmers have been using dogs for a really long time and to this day, they still use them. Several different dog breeds are put to use for herding livestock and cattle, some of those breeds include Australian and German Shepherds, as well as Border Collies. These breeds and some others are born with instincts for herding animals and this can be a huge asset for ranchers and farmers who have a lot of animals that need to be gathered together. Although not as many people are familiar with it, geese management is another thing that these sorts of dogs can be used for. Public venues in which geese can be a real pain include airports, golf course and the race tracks. Some herding dogs are trained in particular for chasing geese away and hindering them from going to these places.
Most people will teach the dog how to do a few tricks, opposed to teaching them how to rescue someone or find a missing person. These tricks are not your average tricks, however. This is not about learning how to fetch or sit, but doing things that are very difficult to accomplish. To train your dog, clicker training is one way to go. To get your dog to obey basic commands, you will use the clicker which is a very small device. Teaching your dog to fetch your slippers, shoes, or even a snack from the kitchen, is completely possible using clicker training. Depending upon the intelligence of the dog, it’s genetics, and its overall personality, you have the potentiality of training it to do a variety of tricks right now.
No matter what the purpose of dog training, everything has to begin with the fundamentals. A dog that has learned to listen to rudimentary instruction can then be provided with more sophisticated training. Besides this, the breed of the dog plays a role in what they are able to do, as well as their disposition and the individual traits. It is essential for a dog to have the right mannerisms and for the owner to be completely devoted, when training a dog for specific purposes.
